I used to think feminine discomfort, those quiet monthly struggles and sudden mood shifts, were just something every woman simply “managed” in silence until one very embarrassing day made me rethink everything.

It happened during a busy Sunday service back home in Lagos. The church was full, the choir was in full swing, and everything felt peaceful and organized. I was sitting neatly with my friends, trying to stay composed, when suddenly I felt that familiar uneasiness in my body. At first, I ignored it. I thought it was nothing.

Then it started again.

The cramps came without warning—tight, sharp, and distracting. I shifted slightly in my seat, hoping it would pass quietly. But instead, it got worse. I could barely focus on what the pastor was saying. I was trying so hard to act normal, but my body was clearly not cooperating.

My friend leaned closer and whispered, “Are you okay?” and I just nodded, even though I wasn’t.

What made it more embarrassing was that I had already been dealing with this for weeks—random discomfort, low energy days, sudden mood swings, and that heavy feeling that made even simple tasks feel like a struggle. I started avoiding outings, cancelling plans last minute, and constantly worrying about whether I would feel “off” in public again.

I remember one day after church, my aunt noticed and said, “This one you are always quiet these days, what is happening?”

That question stuck with me more than I expected.

Because deep down, I knew it wasn’t just stress or tiredness anymore. Something was off, and I couldn’t keep ignoring it.
